Yenepoya Group was created in 1948, this group established various institutes in last two decades which now comprise Yenepoya University. The first institute supported by Yenepoya group was established in 1991. The Yenepoya University became the first private university of district of Dakshin Kannada after it was awarded “deemed University” status in 2008.The need to develop into a university was realized after an overwhelming response and support from the whole community. Self reliance and autonomy was deemed necessary for the rapid growth of the institution and to place it on the global map. The IAE sponsored the new trust Yenepoya University which after inspection was recognized by Government of India.
Logo of the University symbolizes the rich values and traditions of the trust and the institute. The three colors are salutation to three facets of university- the mentor, the material and the medium. Green embodies life; blue represents protection and also the scholastic achievements of the institution. Grey symbolizes stability and dependability. It stands for the discipline our institute is known for.
The shield, a symbol of learning is accompanied by the motto “Rabi Zidni Ilma” written on the ribbon below. These Arabic words are from Holy Quran and mean “Lord, Increase my knowledge”. This is the fundamental purpose of this university and all its institutions.

Yenepoya Medical College
Yenepoya medical college was established in 1999. At that time, it was affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore for the award of degrees. In 1999, admission for MBBS was granted to a batch of 100 students. Postgraduate program in seven departments was started in 2005 after obtaining permission from Medical Council of India. At present, PG students can choose from around 20 departments. Medical College was declared a constituent institute of Yenepoya University in 2009. In 2011, Medical Council of India permitted the admission of 150 students per year from immediate effect.
Lecture Halls and Laboratories
Lecture and exam halls are designed keeping in mind their capacity and the needs of the teachers and the students. They are spacious, with all the equipment needed for the modern techniques of teaching and learning. The research and other laboratories are well equipped and are comparable with those present in the leading institutes of the country. The machinery and apparatus is operated and taught by the professionals hired by the institute.
Yenepoya Medical College library and digital institute is also present in the academic block. Reference books and all the reading material is bar-coded and can be easily found and tracked. Course and reference books along with journals from around the world are available. All the institutions of Yenepoya University can access and consult the library. The services which can be availed include circulation and reference as well as email and internet facility with access to e-books and e-journals.
Digital information section includes audio visual section, computers with printers and internet access. These facilities can be availed by all the students and staff of the university. The broadband link provides access to Science direct, OVID, Cochrane and many other scientific websites. Online journal and e-books are also present. The timings of library are 9 am to midnight which can be extended in exams.
Separate recreational rooms for girls and boys are present in every department. These rooms have comfortable seating facility with Television and few indoor games present. These rooms are to facilitate students in their free time.
The departments of Yenepoya University have state of the art museum with collections of photographs, models, charts, specimen, material on history of the trust and institution along with other exhibits which interest the guests.
Demonstration Halls & Seminar Room
Demonstration halls have modern teaching facilities available which include LCD projectors, over head projectors and slide projectors. Moreover audio and video facilities along with the traditional chalk and black boards are also present in the halls.
Seminar hall is used for organizing different workshop, conferences, seminars and various other events.
The hospital attached with the Medical College has a capacity of 700 beds and is managed by a highly professional and experienced staff. The treatment and surgeries related to all the specialties is done in this hospital. Outpatient department and emergency department are also functional. Separate treatment and post-operational wards for males, females and children are present. The internees and the students of Yenepoya medical college are trained at this hospital.
Separate hostel facilities for male and female students and internees are present inside the campus with the capacity of 500 for both genders. The hostels have well furnished rooms, common rooms and mess facility.
